We are seeking to recruit a Trustee to develop and lead our outreach programme to enhance our involvement with the local community and positively influence the public narrative around refugees settling in the Sevenoaks district.

This new Trustee role will be fundamental to the future of SWR as we lean into our 26‑29 Strategic Plan and develop a greater outreach presence locally, seeking to positively influence the narrative around refugees settling into the area. With the wider public narrative around refugees increasingly negative, this role has the potential for the holder to make a very important contribution to the harmony and development of society in Sevenoaks district.

What are we looking for?

  • Someone who can bring energy, enthusiasm and practicality to the role and who will help broaden the diversity of thinking on our Board and lead SWR on our journey to strengthen our Outreach activities.
  • Experience in community engagement, events promotion, business development or working with volunteers.
  • Commitment to be an active team player on the Board, happy working with and motivating diverse groups from across Sevenoaks district.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with other volunteers, donors, partners and community groups.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, and to balance ambition with realism.
  • Confidence in working with volunteers and helping others to organize and deliver activities.
  • Enthusiasm for SWR’s mission and a strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • To work with the Trustee Board and interested volunteers to develop an appropriate and achievable Outreach Plan for the next twelve months (and beyond) and to lead the implementation of the plan, measuring its impact and adapting it to lessons learnt along the way.
  • Volunteer support: Work with the Trustees, the Small Events Organizer and interested volunteers to identify and organise outreach events, supporting volunteers and (when possible) refugees to play an active role in these events.
  • Promotion & communications: Proactively explore possible new Outreach events (such as public talks and film shows, volunteer orientation etc) that SWR could hold to promote our Vision and Mission and improved support for our outreach activities.
