Our client is an extremely successful, market-leading food retailer with significant turnover. It is a highly commercial environment with a fast-paced culture focused on exceeding customer expectations.

This Buyer Fresh Food role is a new position and is ideal for an individual who wants to progress their career in a growing retailer. The role offers excellent flexible working - 3 days a week in the office and the rest from home (with flexible hours).

As Buyer Fresh Food, you will develop, implement, and review a customer-centric category strategy, developing innovative buying strategies that exceed customer expectations. You will create and deliver the category vision, focusing on growing cash sales and margin delivery, as well as building long-lasting mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers.

Being an excellent negotiator, you will negotiate JBP's that deliver on category objectives. In this role, you will source new suppliers and products that will excite consumers and create value, choice, and quality, growing sales and margin. You will also develop promotional plans and in-store activations that drive footfall and consumer value perception, as well as manage a cost reduction strategy that delivers targeted margin while having a strong understanding of market dynamics and commodities.

Using data and insights, you will work with internal and external stakeholders, including merchandising, marketing, and retail operations, to drive the delivery of your strategy.

The ideal candidate for this Buyer Fresh Food role is a commercial individual with fresh food buying experience gained from UK food retail or wholesale. You will have managed large-scale negotiations with leading branded manufacturers and must be able to demonstrate hands-on buying experience, having negotiated directly with suppliers using different tactics and styles. A proven track record in delivering successful JBP's is essential.

In addition, you will demonstrate a passion for the customer, product, and a flair for commerciality. Working as part of a team, you must have excellent relationship-building skills and be able to communicate and influence internal and external stakeholders.

As Buyer Fresh Food, you must possess good insight and data analysis skills and be able to action opportunities to drive profit. You will have excellent planning and organization skills and be able to work independently on your own initiative, being a self-starter with a can-do attitude.
