Our client is an extremely successful, market-leading food retailer with significant turnover. It is a highly commercial environment with a fast-paced culture focused on exceeding customer expectations. This Buyer Drinks role is a new position and is ideal for an individual who wants to progress their career in a growing retailer.

Excellent flexible working – 3 days a week in the office and the rest from home (offer flexible hours).

The role:

  • Develop, implement, and review a customer-centric category strategy for the category, creating innovative buying strategies that exceed customer expectations.
  • Create and deliver the category vision focusing on growing cash sales and margin delivery, and build long-lasting mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers.
  • Negotiate JBP’s that deliver on category objectives.
  • Source new suppliers and products that excite consumers and create value, choice and quality, growing sales and margin.
  • Develop promotional plans and in-store activations that drive footfall and consumer value perception.
  • Develop and manage a cost reduction strategy that delivers targeted margin; have a strong understanding of market dynamics, commodities, etc.
  • Use data and insights to work with internal and external stakeholders including merchandising, marketing and retail operations to deliver the strategy.

Ideal candidate:

  • Commercial individual with food buying experience from UK food retail or wholesale; managed large-scale negotiations with leading branded manufacturers.
  • Hands-on buying experience and a proven track record in delivering successful JBP’s, having negotiated directly with suppliers using a range of tactics and styles.
  • Passion for the customer, product and a flair for commerciality.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, able to communicate and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong insight and data analysis skills, able to act on opportunities to drive profit.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills; self-starter with a can-do attitude, able to work independently.
