Location: Buntingford, Hertfordshire (SG9)

Contract Type: Temporary

Duration: 6 weeks

Working Hours: 37 hours per week

Start Date: Immediate start required

Pay Rate: PAYE: £13.50 per hour or Umbrella: £17.29 per hour

Role Overview

Seven Resourcing are currently recruiting for a Waste Management Officer to support a local authority waste and recycling service across North and East Hertfordshire. This is a field-based role involving inspections, audits, resident engagement, and operational support for waste and recycling services. The successful candidate will play a key part in ensuring high service standards are maintained across refuse, recycling, and street cleansing operations. Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to work on-site 5 days per week, with approximately 75% of time spent working independently across the district.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out inspections of waste, recycling, and street cleansing services against agreed standards
  • Undertake contractor performance monitoring and record findings accurately
  • Complete environmental quality audits including cleanliness checks and bin condition assessments
  • Record and report incidents such as graffiti in line with council procedures
  • Conduct KPI inspections and participation surveys for recycling services
  • Support data entry and administration across waste management IT systems
  • Carry out door-to-door surveys and waste/recycling audits where required
  • Assess waste and recycling requirements for new developments and advise accordingly
  • Facilitate delivery and collection of waste containers to residents
  • Provide advice and guidance to residents and stakeholders on waste and recycling services
  • Assist with promotional and community engagement activities, including weekends where required
  • Ensure accurate record keeping and reporting for all inspections and activities

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience working in a waste management or environmental services environment
  • Basic understanding of waste operations, recycling systems, and health & safety
  • Experience working with contractors or service providers
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workloads and travel independently across a geographical area
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Proactive, self-motivated approach to field-based work
  • Full UK driving licence
