The Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Officer will provide specialist expertise to support the implementation and delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain across planning and development functions. The post holder will play a key role in positioning the organisation as a leader in BNG, ensuring effective policy development, delivery, and monitoring.
This is a hands-on role requiring immediate impact, supporting key projects, policy development, and strategic partnerships.
Key Responsibilities- Lead on the planning and procurement of Ashenhurst as an off-site BNG delivery location
- Develop and manage a pipeline of additional off-site BNG sites
- Act as the main point of contact for strategic BNG matters, including liaison with regional partners such as GMCA and GMEU
- Review and enhance the development management (DM) approach to BNG delivery through planning applications
- Support the integration of BNG into internal systems, including Arcus
- Lead on the BNG policy area within the Local Plan, including preparation for Regulation 19 consultation
- Review and contribute to policy documentation and evidence base
- Establish and implement a monitoring framework for BNG secured through planning
- Work collaboratively with planning teams and stakeholders to ensure consistent and effective delivery
- Extensive knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) legislation, policy, and implementation
- Strong understanding of the UK planning system and development processes
- Experience delivering BNG through planning and development projects
- Ability to lead on policy development and strategic planning initiatives
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders, including public sector and regional bodies
- Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
