The Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Officer will provide specialist expertise to support the implementation and delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain across planning and development functions. The post holder will play a key role in positioning the organisation as a leader in BNG, ensuring effective policy development, delivery, and monitoring.

This is a hands-on role requiring immediate impact, supporting key projects, policy development, and strategic partnerships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on the planning and procurement of Ashenhurst as an off-site BNG delivery location
  • Develop and manage a pipeline of additional off-site BNG sites
  • Act as the main point of contact for strategic BNG matters, including liaison with regional partners such as GMCA and GMEU
  • Review and enhance the development management (DM) approach to BNG delivery through planning applications
  • Support the integration of BNG into internal systems, including Arcus
  • Lead on the BNG policy area within the Local Plan, including preparation for Regulation 19 consultation
  • Review and contribute to policy documentation and evidence base
  • Establish and implement a monitoring framework for BNG secured through planning
  • Work collaboratively with planning teams and stakeholders to ensure consistent and effective delivery

  • Strong understanding of the UK planning system and development processes
  • Experience delivering BNG through planning and development projects
