Principal Designer (CDM) Location: Yorkshire can be based in several locations to suit candudates location Sector: Civil & Structural Engineering Salary: Up to £70k + Car & Package Setting Out Solutions Group is currently recruiting for an experienced Principal Designer (CDM) to join a well-established multidisciplinary consultancy. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Principal Designer with strong knowledge of CDM 2015, UK Health & Safety legislation and design risk management to take responsibility for coordinating health and safety throughout the pre-construction phase. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, designers, contractors and other project stakeholders to ensure CDM duties are effectively discharged and foreseeable risks are identified, eliminated or reduced through design. Key Responsibilities * Undertake the statutory role of Principal Designer in accordance with CDM 2015. * Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety throughout the pre-construction phase. * Identify foreseeable design and construction risks. * Ensure risks are eliminated, reduced or appropriately controlled through design. * Coordinate and facilitate cooperation between designers and project stakeholders. * Ensure relevant pre-construction information is effectively communicated. * Liaise closely with contractors throughout the project lifecycle. * Support clients in understanding and discharging their duties under CDM 2015. * Provide professional advice on CDM compliance and design risk management. * Promote best practice in construction health and safety. * Maintain accurate project records and documentation. * Monitor projects against agreed programmes and timescales. * Work within agreed project budgets and fee constraints. * Follow relevant quality, risk and health & safety procedures. Knowledge & Experience * Significant experience working as a Principal Designer under CDM 2015. * Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations. * Good understanding of quality and risk management. * Broad project and client experience within the construction and/or property sectors. * Strong understanding of design risk and foreseeable construction hazards. * Ability to advise clients, designers and contractors on their CDM responsibilities. * Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Good organisational and project management capabilities. Qualifications & Professional Membership * NEBOSH qualification or equivalent preferred. * APS Registered Principal Designer status desirable. * APS membership or eligibility for membership preferred. * IOSH membership or other relevant professional membership desirable. Personal Attributes * Collaborative approach with the ability to build positive client and colleague relationships. * Organised, proactive and able to manage competing project priorities. * Committed to professional development and maintaining knowledge of industry best practice.
