About the Role: We are looking for a skilled and motivated Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our Drinking Water Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining and improving assets across our water treatment works and pumping stations, helping to ensure the delivery of safe, reliable drinking water to our customers.

The successful candidate will be responsible for fault finding, repairing, maintaining, and improving a wide range of mechanical equipment while supporting health, safety, compliance, and operational performance across multiple sites.

What You'll Be Doing: As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you will:

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on fixed plant equipment across water treatment and pumping sites.
  • Diagnose faults and undertake repairs on pumps, gearboxes, motors, and specialist treatment process machinery.
  • Manufacture and fabricate replacement parts and equipment where required.
  • Work safely in confined spaces and use breathing apparatus when necessary.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from other engineering disciplines within workshop and mobile maintenance teams.
  • Assist operational teams in resolving complex mechanical issues.
  • Support the installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to apprentices and trainees.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of completed maintenance activities.
  • Work in accordance with safe systems of work, method statements, health and safety policies, and company procedures.
  • Participate in a standby and call-out rota.
  • Travel throughout the region to support operational requirements as needed.

What We're Looking For:

  • Essential Requirements:
  • Completed apprenticeship in a relevant technical or engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience working in a mechanical engineering or maintenance role.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to repair and maintain complex mechanical equipment.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to work safely in challenging environments and adverse weather conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Desirable Requirements:
  • ONC/HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience within the water or wastewater industry.
  • Experience delivering maintenance services to internal or external customers.
  • Experience working with contractors.
  • Fabrication and welding experience including MIG, TIG and Stick welding.
  • Experience using machine tools to manufacture components.
  • Knowledge of safe systems of work and method statements.
