We’re proud to be part of Pennon Group, a leader in the UK water sector, working towards a greener future. Our goals? As well as lowering our carbon footprint, we’re working with partners to plant 300,000 trees, restore peatlands and support farmers and landowners to improve water quality and wildlife.

An exciting opportunity has become available for a proactive and safety-focused Strategic Asset Technician to join our team in Bournemouth on a full-time, permanent basis. You’ll play a key role in maintaining our assets, supporting operational activities, and ensuring we continue to deliver high-quality drinking water and excellent customer service. This is a varied, hands-on role that involves planned and reactive work, problem-solving, and occasional participation in standby and call-out rotas.

Experience in water supply or related technical environment is helpful but we also welcome applicants with transferable skills – full training will be provided.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Follow all Health, Safety & Security policies and standards at all times.
  • Carry out maintenance tasks on a wide range of network assets, including service reservoirs, pressure reducing valves, network fittings and pumping stations.
  • Plan and deliver routine and reactive reservoir cleaning.
  • Use inspection tools such as CCTV and ROV equipment.
  • Work in line with all QMS procedures and maintain up-to-date knowledge of them.
  • Ensure environmental protection requirements are met during maintenance activities.
  • Support supply interruption mitigation techniques, both in planned and reactive situations, including out-of-hours deployment.
  • Contribute to wider water distribution operations such as trunk main walking, mains flushing, and non-highway excavations for leaks or asset access.
  • Undertake valve and fitting servicing and replacements.
  • Prevent contamination during all tasks and know how to respond in the event of an incident.
  • Participate in call-out and standby rotas as required.
  • Maintain positive relationships with customers, colleagues, public authorities and other stakeholders through high levels of customer service.
  • All of the above will require you to work at height and in confined spaces.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A good standard of education, including GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • EUSR Water Hygiene Certificate; if you don’t currently hold this certificate, we will support you to gain it.
  • Ability to deliver work to regulatory deadlines, including reporting requirements.
  • A flexible, adaptable approach to daily tasks, with the ability to respond quickly to incidents.
  • Ability to maintain buildings and structures.
  • A background in delivering high-quality internal and external customer service.
  • Familiarity with GIS systems and related digital tools.
  • Experience in utilities, pipeline construction or street works.
  • Due to the nature of standby and call-out duties, we ask that you can reach the operational area within approximately 45 minutes.

What’s In It For You?

  • Generous holiday allowance plus bank holidays.
  • A discretionary Bonus.
  • Competitive Contributory Pension.
  • Share-save Scheme.
  • Various health benefits.
  • Wellbeing support programmes.
  • A range of Group Discounts.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • Financial support services.

Closing Date: 7th April. Please note that the successful candidate will be subject to a mandatory DBS check as part of the onboarding process.
