SES is seeking an ambitious and influential Regional Technical Director to lead the technical function across our Central region, a high performing and growing business unit that is delivering approximately £200m of complex and technically challenging MEP services across a diverse portfolio of sectors.

We are looking for a strategic and forward thinking leader who can build on the region's strong reputation for technical excellence, successful project delivery and trusted client relationships.

As a member of the regional Senior Leadership Team, you will provide independent and authoritative technical leadership and governance across the region.

Leading a highly talented multidisciplinary team of technical professionals, you will be responsible for driving excellence in engineering, design, innovation and technical assurance, while creating an environment where people can continue to develop, thrive and perform at their best.

Working closely with colleagues across design and engineering, preconstruction, operations, commercial and business improvement, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening our work-winning capability, managing technical risk and delivering high quality, best value solutions for our customers.

This is far more than a functional leadership position.

As a key member of the regional leadership team, you will help influence strategy, support sustainable growth, develop technical capability and contribute to the decisions that shape the future success of the Central region.

  • KEY RESPONSIBLITIES
  • Develop and implement regional design and technical strategies aligned with business objectives, customer needs, industry trends and company management systems.
  • Lead, manage and develop the regional technical, digital engineering, commissioning management and sustainability teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement and technical excellence.
  • Provide independent technical governance across bids and projects, including technical authorisation of bids, design and technical audits, approvals and compliance oversight.
  • Collaborate with design and engineering, preconstruction, operations and other functions to develop innovative solutions and compelling work-winning strategies that create customer value and competitive advantage.
  • Drive compliance with the Building Safety Act, CDM, Designing for Safety, quality standards and the SES Operating Framework, maintaining clear evidence of technical competence and assurance.
  • Oversee the selection and appointment of MEP, design and engineering consultants and critical systems specialists, ensuring designs are compliant, complete, commercially sound and deliver best value.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, consultants and supply chain partners, addressing concerns and ensuring technical solutions meet or exceed expectations.
  • Identify technical risk and opportunity early, strengthen performance monitoring, and contribute to margin enhancement, innovation and the continued development of technical excellence across SES.

Requirements

  • Extensive senior-level experience in technical, design or engineering leadership within a large MEP, building services or engineering-led business.
  • A strong track record of leading and developing multidisciplinary, high-performing teams and influencing stakeholders at executive level.
  • Broad knowledge of design management, engineering principles, project lifecycles, technical governance, quality assurance, relevant legislation and Building Safety Act requirements.
  • A degree in building services engineering or a related discipline, together with Chartered Engineer status and MCIBSE membership, or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Commercial and strategic awareness, with the ability to manage competing priorities, drive innovation and translate technical expertise into customer value and improved business performance.
