Overview

About The Role We are continuing to scale our legal function and are looking for a UK-qualified Legal Counsel to join a close-knit, elite legal team of three (including the Head of Legal). You\’ll report to the Head of Legal and help deliver an ambitious roadmap of legal, compliance, and commercial initiatives across FundApps and the newly combined group with SteelEye. For the first few months, your primary objective will be supporting the post-merger integration between FundApps and SteelEye, aligning approaches, harmonising contracts, suppliers, tools, and policies, and enabling teams to keep moving during the integration. Thereafter, you will perform core in-house counsel work across commercial contracting, compliance frameworks, product reviews, and cross-functional enablement to strengthen our legal operations.

What You\’ll Be Working On

The role is varied and fast-paced. In the initial phase you will split time between integration delivery and ongoing in-house legal support.

Integration focus (first few months)

  • Drive the legal workstream of the FundApps x SteelEye integration across policies, contracts, suppliers, and internal processes.
  • Review the existing contract landscape (customer, vendor, data provider, partner) and triage what to keep, update, consolidate, novate, or retire.
  • Harmonise key policies and governance (privacy/data protection, security, procurement, contracting playbooks, compliance documentation).
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders (Finance, Revenue/Sales, Product, InfoSec, Ops, People) and external counsel as needed.
  • Identify and escalate material risks, non-standard commitments, or integration blockers early and propose pragmatic solutions.

Core in-house counsel (ongoing day-to-day)

  • Review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements (vendor contracts, data provider agreements, client terms, NDAs, DPAs).
  • Partner with Revenue to resolve client contract queries, lead negotiations, and remove blockers to close by:
    • Running live negotiations (calls/video) with counterparties, procurement, client legal departments, and external counsel.
    • Balancing legal risk with commercial outcomes and adapting negotiation style to counterparty and business goals.
  • Guide contracts through their lifecycle (order forms, redlines, renewals, amendments, terminations).
  • Improve contract management processes and tooling, including renewal monitoring and standardising workflows.
  • Advise on legal and compliance aspects of new product features, especially related to data, AI, integrations, and regulated-market customers.
  • Track relevant UK/EU regulatory developments (privacy/data protection and tech regulation) and deliver actionable updates to the business.
  • Respond to ad-hoc legal queries (often via Slack) to enable quick and sound decision-making.
  • Drive legal ops projects to improve scalability and efficiency, such as:
    • Refining internal playbooks and building training resources for client-facing teams.
    • Evolving privacy and data governance practices for a scaling SaaS business.
    • Creating external compliance resources so clients can self-serve common questions.

What You\’ll Bring To The Team

We are looking for someone with great instincts, curiosity, pragmatism, and a desire to learn and help build something meaningful.

Must-haves

  • Qualified solicitor (England & Wales).
  • 3+ years of relevant legal experience (in-house at a tech/SaaS company is a strong plus).
  • Strong commercial contracts expertise—drafting, negotiating, issue-spotting with deep knowledge of indemnities, liability, termination and negotiation strategies.
  • Proven ability to lead real-time negotiations with confidence and clarity (calls/video) with counterparties, procurement, client legal teams, and external counsel.
  • Comfort working independently on contracts and day-to-day legal matters, with good judgment on escalation.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity (organized chaos) and prioritise, bringing structure during busy integration phases.
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented, and able to build momentum without requiring everything defined upfront.
  • Collaborative and coachable—keen to work closely with the Head of Legal to deliver a major Board-level integration project.
  • Familiarity with UK GDPR/EU GDPR concepts, DPAs, and data governance basics (or willingness to ramp quickly).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills—concise, business-friendly, persuasive.
  • Hands-on mindset with willingness to take ownership in a small team.

Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism to handle negotiations across a wide range of stakeholders.

Bonus points

  • Experience supporting M&A or post-merger integration workstreams.
  • Experience with CLM tools or other legal tech platforms.
  • Previous exposure to SaaS or startup environments, ideally high-growth and fast-moving.
