About Me: We are a welcoming family looking for a kind, reliable and energetic PA to support our fully dependent 14-year-old son. Our home is full of laughter, creativity and warmth, and we are looking for someone who would share this ethos. He has Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) and is dependent on others for all daily living needs such as feeding, mobilising, washing, changing, and hobbies. He enjoys watching TV, watching people play video games, swimming, going out and about, animals – especially dogs, and being involved in family life.

Job details: You will provide dedicated, compassionate support for Sam, assisting with day-to-day activities, personal care, and facilitating participation in hobbies, school and social experiences. Your role will be as much about creating joyful moments and memories as it is about practical care.

Tasks:

  • Personal Care: You would be helping with tasks such as bathing and dressing.
  • Keeping room tidy so he knows where things are.
  • Helping with laundry.
  • Organising medical supplies.
  • He is NG fed including medication so you will need to undertake the provided training.
  • Supporting him to continue doing activities he enjoys.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Warm, patient and energetic
  • Comfortable with full personal care
  • Flexible, reliable and proactive
  • Experience with children or young people with high needs is a bonus, but not essential – he will show you the ropes!

What we will offer:

  • You will be valued, welcomed and genuinely become part of the family.
  • A role that is meaningful and rewarding – Sam gives the best smiles.
  • The chance to make a lasting difference in his life.

About Direct Payments: Direct payments are available from Local Authorities for people who have a care and support plan in place following a social care assessment. An amount of money is allocated to purchase the assistance and care needed to live independently. I should stress that I will be your employer and have full responsibility for recruitment, contracts, supervision, pay, training etc. A support service assists me in meeting my responsibilities as an employer.
