Location: Madley

Hours: 8 hours per week (4 on a Saturday, 4 on a Sunday)

Interested in working in social care? Please read on to see how you can make a difference.

I am a physically disabled lady who lives in Madley. I am looking for a Care and Support Assistant to work around 8 hours per week assisting me with personal care, housework, gardening, food prep, and taking me to and from appointments.

You will need to be a car driver/owner, have a clean driving license and be physically fit enough to undertake any manual handling needed. You will have a strong work ethic and be able to work alongside me or left to manage tasks depending on my fluctuating health. A good attitude to independence is important to understand a disabled person and their choices. It is very important for me to have control over the way I run my life, and Personal Assistants need to respect this.

Job details:

  • Personal care: Helping with tasks such as bathing and dressing, supporting emotionally in a sensitive manner, making and changing beds, cleaning rooms, dusting, laundry, and ironing.
  • Hobbies and social activities: Supporting me to continue doing what I enjoy.
  • Medical needs: Supporting at appointments and assisting with medication.
  • Other small jobs: Helping to sort papers and letters, computer support, and general admin. Occasional pet care including dog walking.

About You:

Previous experience of similar work is desirable but not essential, as I will ensure you receive the training you need. You will have basic cookery skills and be willing to attend any necessary training (e.g. first aid, manual handling). You must understand the importance of confidentiality, be patient, calm, a good communicator, and have a good sense of humour. Teamwork is important, as well as being able to work on your own initiative and having some flexibility to allow for holiday or sickness cover.

About Direct Payments:

Direct payments are available from Local Authorities for people who have a care and support plan in place following a social care assessment. An amount of money is allocated to purchase the assistance and care needed to live independently. I should stress that I will be your employer and have full responsibility for recruitment, contracts, supervision, pay, training, etc. A support service assists me in meeting my responsibilities as an employer.

Salary: This is a flat rate of pay that takes account of unsociable hours and weekend working. Hours: These are the minimally contracted hours. If I require additional support at other times, I will try to give as much notice as possible; an ability to be flexible would be an advantage.
