Personal Assistant to Disabled Employer

Salary: £13.36 per hour

Location: Leominster

Hours: 2 days a week, 09:00 – 15:00 or 09:00 – 16:00. Additional evening and weekend hours are not part of this role but will be available for those who wish to take them on (weekend 09:00 – 14:00, evening hours agreed as needed).

You will work in a lively family home – a good sense of humour is a must! Applicants must be flexible, have good time‑keeping, and be able to drive.

Responsibilities:
  • Personal care – bathing, dressing, hair and makeup, feeding assistance.
  • Housekeeping – light household duties (washing, vacuuming, polishing), assisting the lady toward greater independence in these tasks.
  • Shopping – grocery, birthday gifts, clothes shopping; handling vehicle, wheelchair and bag loading/unloading.
  • Meal preparation – wash up, keep the kitchen tidy; help with lunches and preparing evening meals for family.
  • Hobbies & social activities – accompany for regular lunches, garden centre visits, small cafes, swimming, occasional visits to friends, family and holidays.
  • Medical & other appointments – attend doctor, dental and other appointments with the employer.
  • Administrative support – sort paperwork, letters, respond to emails.
Requirements & Skills:
  • Basic maths, literacy and IT skills (advantageous).
  • Previous experience of similar work is desirable but not essential; training will be provided.
  • Basic cookery and gardening skills.
  • Willingness to attend required training (first aid, manual handling, etc.).
  • Strong confidentiality, patience, calm, good communication and a good sense of humour.
  • Understand and respect a disabled person's independence and choices.
  • Teamwork ability and willingness to work independently; flexibility for cover during holiday or sickness.
  • Valid driver’s licence, car ownership and physical fitness for manual handling.
  • Love of dogs (the employer has a new puppy).

About Direct Payments: Direct payments are available from Local Authorities for people who have a care and support plan following a social care assessment. The employer manages recruitment, contracts, supervision, pay and training.
