I am a disabled woman living in Leominster with an illness which makes it difficult for me to do everyday tasks. I am seeking a reliable and conscientious Personal Assistant to support me with day to day living, social activities, and maintaining my independence.
About the role
- Hours: 2 days a week, 09:00 - 15:00 or 09:00 - 16:00. Additional evening and weekend hours are not part of this role but will be available for those who wish to take them on. Weekend hours are 09:00 - 14:00, evening hours would be agreed when needed.
- You will be working in a lively family home – so a good sense of humour is a must!
- Applicants will need to be flexible with good timekeeping to enable me to get to my appointments, and you will also need to be able to drive.
- You must love dogs as we have recently adopted a new puppy!
Job details
- Personal care: Assist with bathing, dressing, hair and make‑up, and eating.
- Housekeeping: Light duties such as bringing the washing in, putting washing on, making lunches, hoovering and polishing; support independence.
- Shopping: Go out for groceries, gifts, clothes; help load/unload vehicle and wheelchair.
- Preparation and cooking of some meals: Wash up and leave the kitchen clean; prepare lunches and potentially evening meals for family.
- Hobbies and social activities: Driver/owner of car, physically fit for manual handling; will drive me to appointments and social events.
About Direct Payments
Direct payments are available from Local Authorities for people who have a care and support plan in place following a social care assessment. An amount of money is allocated to purchase the assistance and care needed to live independently.
General Requirements
- You will need basic maths and literacy knowledge, basic IT skills will also be an advantage.
- Previous experience of similar work is desirable but not essential, as I will make sure you get the training you need.
- You will have both basic cookery and gardening skills as this is something I want to start doing.
- You will also need to be willing to attend any training needed (e.g. first aid, manual handling).
- You must be able to understand the importance of confidentiality, be patient, calm, be a good communicator and have a good sense of humour.
- A good attitude towards independence is important to understand a disabled person and their choices.
- Teamwork is important as well as being able to work on your own initiative, and have some flexibility to allow for holiday or sickness cover.
