This halfโday session is designed for Year 1 teachers and provides a comprehensive overview of the administrative arrangements for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check. Participants will explore the National Guidance materials, discuss how the test is administered, and review essential doโs and donโts for schools.
Course aims:
- Provide an overview of the purpose of the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check (KS1).
- Consider what schools need to do to prepare for the check.
- Provide information on access arrangements for the check.
- Outline how the check should be administered and reported.
- Provide guidance about statutory monitoring arrangements for the phonics check.
The session also covers the responsibilities that schools have in terms of administering the check, ensuring the security of the check materials, and handling marking. Additionally, it examines Local Authority responsibilities for monitoring the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check.
Target audience: teachers in Year 1 who have not previously administered the check or who wish a refresher on procedures; also suitable for literacy subject leaders and senior management team members.
