We are seeking a highly motivated Radiation Oncologists to join the Northern Cancer Service, based in Launceston.

About the Northern Cancer Service

The Northern Cancer Service provides comprehensive and integrated cancer care, offering state-of-the-art medical oncology, radiation oncology, and haematology services to a population of approximately 250,000 people across Northern Tasmania. The service operates radiation therapy sites in both Launceston and Burnie.The WP Holman Clinic Launceston has the capacity to operate up to three linear accelerators. The WP Holman Clinic provides outreach services to our Burnie site. Burnie currently operates as a single-machine unit, with the recent addition of a second linear accelerator, we are expanding services.

Your Role & Opportunities

Radiation Oncology Team:

  • The W.P. Holman Clinic in Launceston has three Radiation Oncologists and one fully accredited advanced trainee position, with plans for future expansion to a second trainee position.
  • A newly qualified Radiation Oncologist (IMG) has recently joined the team for at least the next two years.

Advanced Techniques & Specialised Services:

  • Stereotactic Therapy
  • Brachytherapy Service:
    • Launceston provides Brachytherapy services for the entire state of Tasmania (~500,000 people).
    • The facility is expanding, with opportunities for candidates interested in upskilling in this field.
    • Our modern Brachytherapy Suite was upgraded last year with new HDR equipment, providing exciting new opportunities.

    Research & Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

    • Our clinical trials and research unit, based in Launceston, runs a range of Phase 2 & 3 trials.
    • A rigorous Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) program fosters collaborative patient care.

    Details of Appointment:

  • Position: Permanent, full-time, working 76 hours per fortnight, with on-call duties. Fixed term hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant. *notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

    Salary: The remuneration package for this position, based on classification as aSpecialist Medical Practitioner Level 9, starts at $484,000 per annum, with potential for higher earnings in accordance with the current Specialist Medical Practitioner Award (Tasmania).

    • Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 – $310,389 per annum
    • Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 – $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3as outlined in the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

    Total package for the successful candidate may include the following:

    • Provision ofa fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,389 per annum
    • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum
    • Private Patient Allowance – 35% of base salary
    • On-call allowance (1 in 4)
    • Relocation package and accommodation allowance available up to $20,000

    Eligibility:

    Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in the speciality of radiation oncology speciality
  • Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists
  • The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted.
