The role:
- Provide specialist care to public and private patients.
- Be involved in research and quality improvement activities, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Provide specialist advice to inpatient units as required.
- Participate in the Cardiology on call roster.

The hospital/site/area/team:
The cardiology department at the Launceston General Hospital has a catchment population of a quarter of a million and provides 24/7 cardiac services to Northern Tasmania. This growing and busy department has a team of 7 cardiologists and three advanced trainees. There are plans to expand to the Northern Heart Centre at LGH, featuring two state-of-the-art catheterisation labs and a stand-alone department as part of the LGH master plan.
The cardiac catheterisation lab at LGH is well established with experienced medical and nursing staff. It is one of the busiest labs in the country, performing over 2000 procedures and more than 500 coronary angioplasties annually. The successful applicant can expect to work in a well-supported, friendly environment practicing evidence-based medicine, with opportunities for complex coronary work and structural heart interventions. There is also potential to work part-time sessions at a fully functional private catheterisation lab at Calvary St Vincent’s Hospital.

Details of Appointment:
This is a permanent day worker position with on-call duties, up to 76 hours per fortnight, starting as soon as possible. Hours are negotiable.

Salary and Allowances:
Base salary ranges from $216,300 to $296,640 for Level 1-11, and $300,389 to $310,389 for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1-3, plus 12% superannuation and salary packaging options.
Additional allowances may include:
- Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro-rata
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 per annum, pro-rata
- Relocation allowance
- On-call allowance as a percentage of Base Salary
- Other allowances as per the current Award
Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme, an additional payment of 35% of Base salary plus on-call may be paid from PPS. If not admitted to PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
Eligibility:
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty.
Pre-employment checks include conviction checks (violence, sex offences, serious drug offences, dishonesty), identification, and disciplinary action in previous employment.
