The Launceston General Hospital is Tasmania's second largest hospital with a busy elective and emergency service utilising 9 main Operating Theatres. LGH works closely with the University of Tasmania and is a major clinical teaching and research centre. All our services work closely together to deliver excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, workforce and the Tasmanian community guided by our CARE values.

Registered Nurses within the Operating Room Suite work across the domains of Instrument and Circulating, Anaesthetics and Post Anesthetic Care Unit to provide elective and emergency care to patients across multiple specialty areas.

The Operating Room Suite is a dynamic environment requiring the successful applicant to prioritize tasks, adapt and respond to changing situations. Minimum of 12 months Operating Room experience within the past 3 years is desirable.

Why Tasmania: The Department of Health Tasmania oversees various hospitals across the state, including the Royal Hobart Hospital, Launceston General Hospital, Northwest Regional Hospital, and Mersey Community Hospital, as well as district hospitals and ambulance services. It provides community health, mental health, and primary healthcare services to the Tasmanian community through more than 300 sites. Tasmania, Australia’s only island state, offers natural beauty and a lifestyle that supports work-life balance.

Details of appointment: Permanent full time, shift worker (fully rotational) position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as you can join the team. Hours are negotiable with the successful applicant. Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar vacancies.

Salary: $80,524 to $109,175 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023. Access to the Grade 4 salary range $102,439-$109,175 is subject to progression to Grade 4. In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type.

Salary Packaging: You’ll have access to salary packaging a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Benefits available to eligible candidates: Travel and relocation assistance up to $15,000 for overseas appointees, and up to $10,000 for interstate appointees. Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria. Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse. Desirable criteria: Minimum 12 months Operating Room experience within the last 3 years. Minimum of 3 years’ Operating Room experience within the last 5 years. Successful completion of a 12-month Transition to Practice, Perioperative Program. Attainment of Post Graduate Certificate, or greater, in Perioperative Nursing.
