The maternity service at the Launceston General Hospital is a vibrant, supportive unit with a highly skilled team dedicated to providing safe, woman‑centred care. It proudly supports Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) and the Early Midwifery Service (EMS), offering continuity and early engagement for families. With a six‑bed birthing unit and around 1,600 births each year, the service plays a vital role in caring for women and babies across Northern Tasmania, with plenty of opportunities for professional growth, development, and involvement in innovative models of care. All of this is set in Launceston, a welcoming regional city known for its beautiful natural surroundings, thriving food culture, and relaxed lifestyle making it an ideal place to live, work, and raise a family.

We are looking for someone who can contribute confidently to a busy, high‑quality maternity service, bringing strong clinical skills, sound judgement, and a commitment to woman‑centred care. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. They should demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, and a willingness to engage in continuous learning, quality improvement, and safe clinical practice. Importantly, they must uphold a strong child‑safety lens in all aspects of their work, ensuring the wellbeing, protection, and rights of every baby and family are central to their practice.

Details of appointment: Permanent, part time, day worker position, working up to 16 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as you can join us. Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant. Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $134,109 to $140,384 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023. In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type.

Salary Packaging: You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Midwife.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration.
