Overview
The Team:
TheHealth Care Assistant team at theDepartment of Health Tasmaniaplays a vital role in supporting mental health services, particularly within theNorthside unitin Launceston. Here\’s a short summary of the team and role:
- The team operates on acasual, as-needed basis, providing flexible support across various shifts.
- Members work within amulti-disciplinary environment, collaborating closely with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals.
- The focus is on delivering compassionate care to patients with mental health needs, often in high-dependency settings.
The Role:
Provide orderly services and assistance to Medical, Nursing and Allied Health staff in the general care of patients at the Northside Mental Health Clinic.
Provide intra- and inter-hospital transport of patients.
Provide an immediate response to Code Black if called on the unit.
Responsibilities
- Assist staff making and changing beds; toileting, showering or bathing for non-ambulatory, heavy or physically compromised patients.
- Assist nursing staff in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) as required.
- Participate in patient care and monitoring under the direct supervision of nursing staff.
Details of appointment
One permanent full time, shift worker (fully rotational) position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
Fixed term casual, shift worker (fully rotational) positions working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible until 24 August 2027.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary and benefits
Salary: $67,193 to $72,126 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
Salary Packaging:
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
