About the Role


Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced and passionate Adults Mental Health Social Worker to join Trafford Council's Adults Mental Health Social Care Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Social Worker with experience supporting adults with complex mental health needs to join a forward-thinking service committed to promoting independence, recovery and positive outcomes. Following the recent transformation of Trafford's community mental health services, Social Workers have transitioned back under the management of Trafford Council, creating an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of a strengths-based, person-centred service. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of adults experiencing severe mental health difficulties, delivering statutory Social Work interventions while promoting wellbeing, safeguarding and independence. You will work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers and multidisciplinary professionals to ensure people receive the right support, in the right place, at the right time.


Key Responsibilities



  • Manage a varied caseload of adults experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties.

  • Complete comprehensive Care Act 2014 assessments, support planning and reviews.

  • Undertake Mental Capacity Assessments (MCA) and contribute to best-interest decision-making where appropriate.

  • Identify, assess and manage safeguarding concerns in accordance with statutory duties and local procedures.

  • Develop person-centred, strengths-based care and support plans that promote recovery, independence and wellbeing.

  • Work collaboratively with mental health professionals, healthcare providers, families, carers and community organisations.

  • Apply relevant legislation, including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 and Human Rights Act 1998.

  • Promote positive risk-taking and risk enablement while ensuring appropriate safeguarding measures are in place.

  • Support preventative interventions aimed at reducing, delaying or preventing the escalation of care and support needs.

  • Maintain accurate case records, assessments and reports in accordance with professional and statutory standards.

  • Advocate for individuals experiencing mental health difficulties, promoting their rights, choices and social inclusion.

  • Participate in regular supervision, reflective practice and continuing professional development.


Essential Requirements



  • Recognised Social Work qualification (Degree, Diploma or equivalent).

  • Current registration with Social Work England.

  • Previous experience working within Adults Mental Health Social Work services.

  • Strong working knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and relevant mental health legislation.

  • Experience completing statutory assessments, safeguarding enquiries, risk assessments and support plans.

  • Ability to manage complex caseloads involving adults with significant mental health needs.

  • Excellent communication, assessment and interpersonal skills.

  • Commitment to strengths-based, person-centred and recovery-focused practice.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary environment.

  • Ability to drive as part of the role is essential.


The successful applicant will also be required to provide three years of employment references, explanations for any gaps in employment and evidence of relevant qualifications.
