Building Surveyor £22.49 PAYE / £28.63 Umbrella Location: Local Authority in Hertfordshire Hours: 37 hours per week Contract: Temporary Hybrid working: Available
Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for a Building Surveyor to join an anonymous Local Authority on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will provide professional building surveying services across the Council’s housing stock, with responsibility for planned maintenance, improvement and capital works projects from initial survey through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake building surveys, identify defects and specify appropriate remedial works.
- Manage planned maintenance and capital projects from inception through to completion.
- Prepare specifications, tender and contract documentation and support procurement processes.
- Monitor and manage contractors to ensure works are delivered to specification, programme and budget.
- Oversee works including roofing, windows and doors, kitchens and bathrooms, repointing, balconies, cladding and other planned improvements.
- Carry out stock condition surveys and maintain accurate asset information.
- Provide building surveying advice across housing and property-related projects.
- Manage Health & Safety requirements, including CDM, asbestos and fire safety considerations.
- Undertake HHSRS assessments where required.
- Liaise with residents, leaseholders, contractors, planning/building control and other stakeholders.
- Monitor project progress, costs and performance across multiple programmes.
Requirements
- Experience working in a similar Building/Projects Surveyor role.
- Experience within housing, property maintenance or asset management, ideally within a Local Authority environment.
- Building Surveying qualification such as a degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience.
- Experience managing contractors and planned maintenance/capital works projects.
- Knowledge of JCT contracts, procurement and project management.
- Knowledge of building defects, repairs and refurbishment works.
- Understanding of CDM Regulations, Health & Safety and relevant housing legislation.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.
- HHSRS, asbestos and/or IOSH qualifications would be advantageous.
