We are currently recruiting for a Business Support Officer to join the Attendance and Children Out of School Team, providing essential administrative and operational support across a busy education service. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong administration, customer service and IT skills who wants to use those abilities within a service that directly supports positive outcomes for children and young people.

About the role

As a Business Support Officer, you will be a key point of contact for the team, working with schools, early years settings, post-16 providers, parents, young people and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive administrative support across the Attendance and Children Out of School Team.
  • Acting as a first point of contact for enquiries from schools and parents and responding in a professional and timely manner.
  • Managing inboxes, correspondence, records and a range of IT-based administrative tasks.
  • Supporting the organisation of meetings, including preparing information, taking minutes and following up actions.
  • Processing and maintaining accurate information relating to attendance, children missing education, elective home education, exclusions, licensing, penalty notices, prosecution and other statutory functions.
  • Preparing witness statements for prosecution cases and, where required, representing the team as a witness in court.
  • Maintaining databases, case records and tracking systems, ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
  • Supporting the production of statistical, performance and workload reports.
  • Maintaining financial records and ensuring payments are processed appropriately.
  • Coordinating complaints and ensuring responses are provided within appropriate timescales.
  • Supporting quality assurance activity and identifying opportunities to improve systems and processes.
  • Researching, collating and presenting information for senior colleagues.
  • Managing and monitoring relevant systems, uploading documentation and ensuring deadlines and agreed timescales are met.
  • Coordinating communications with education settings, families, services and partner organisations.

What we're looking for

We are looking for someone who is highly organised, reliable and confident dealing with a wide range of people.

You should have:

  • Experience undertaking a range of administrative duties.
  • Experience working within a customer service environment.
  • Good IT skills and experience using systems such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and databases.
  • Experience maintaining accurate records and databases.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • An understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
  • A commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • The ability to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a wider team.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • At least 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English at Grade C or above.
  • ECDL or equivalent IT qualification is desirable.
  • 2 A Levels or equivalent is desirable.
