Salary: £25,000–£30,000 (DOE)

Reporting to: National Delivery Lead

About: My client is a charity working to reduce harm caused by crime and punishment by amplifying the voices of people with lived experience of the criminal justice system. We deliver peer-led research, consultations, and prison councils across 40 prisons in England, engaging over 1,000 people monthly. Our work informs policy, improves services, and supports individuals to transform their lives. Most of our staff have lived experience, bringing unique insight and credibility to our work.

Role Purpose: Lead the delivery of prison councils and peer-led research and consultation projects, engaging children, young people, and adults in custody and community settings to inform system change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver User Voice projects, including prison councils and consultations
  • Engage service users across secure and community settings
  • Recruit, train, and support participants and volunteers
  • Plan and support project delivery and management
  • Conduct interviews, surveys, and focus groups
  • Liaise with prisons, probation, and partner organisations
  • Support data analysis, reporting, and dissemination
  • Contribute to wider projects as required

Note: This is a front-line role requiring regular travel and flexible working.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Lived experience of the criminal justice system
  • Strong communication skills across diverse groups
  • Experience delivering engagement activities (e.g. interviews, focus groups)
  • Experience recruiting and supporting individuals or groups
  • Organised, adaptable, and able to meet deadlines
  • Basic IT and data handling skills
  • Interest in research and supporting others
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Motivated, proactive (“can-do” attitude)

Desirable:

  • Prison/probation clearance
  • Experience in social research or the criminal justice sector
  • Experience working with service users or prisoners
  • Data analysis and reporting skills
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets/databases
