Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a respected local authority client who are seeking a proactive and passionate Tree Officer to join their Neighbourhood Services team. The Role

As a Tree Officer, you will support the Arboricultural Manager in managing the council's diverse tree stock, ensuring public safety, maintaining healthy tree growth, and promoting sustainable urban tree planting. You will conduct inspections, co-ordinate maintenance work, support housing services with tree-related issues, and lead on tree planting initiatives across the borough.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tree Inspection & Maintenance
    • Respond to public and internal enquiries, logging and updating service requests via CRM.
    • Conduct inspections of trees in public spaces and housing properties.
    • Prioritise and recommend tree surgery work; supervise contractors and in-house teams.
    • Ensure compliance with current British Standards and health and safety regulations.
  • Tree Planting & Environmental Stewardship
    • Co-ordinate annual tree planting programmes.
    • Identify suitable species and planting locations in collaboration with parks teams.
    • Oversee young tree aftercare, maintenance and health monitoring.
  • Administration & Record-Keeping
    • Update and maintain the Council's tree database with inspection results and work schedules.
    • Assist with procurement and contract orders in line with council procedures.
    • Prepare written reports, respond to complaints, and provide technical advice as needed.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Basic knowledge of tree biology, species ID, diseases, surgery techniques, and planting care.
  • National Certificate in Arboriculture (or working towards it).
  • Previous experience in arboriculture, tree inspection, or tree surgery.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and prioritisation skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Good IT literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Desirable:

  • HNC in Arboriculture or related qualification.
  • NPTC Units 38/39 (or equivalent climbing qualifications).
  • Knowledge of contract and database management.
  • Experience managing contractors or dealing with tree issues linked to planning.
  • Familiarity with handheld data-collection devices and CRM systems.

  • Confident, assertive, and able to work independently.

Additional Information
