I’m working with a local authority–owned organisation to recruit an experienced Targeted Housing Adviser to support a busy Housing Advice and Homelessness Prevention service. This is a frontline role dealing with complex housing cases, offering practical advice and working proactively to prevent and relieve homelessness.
The role:
- Managing a varied caseload, providing housing advice and support to vulnerable individuals and families
- Delivering homelessness prevention and relief work in line with the Housing Act 1996 (Part VI & VII)
- Assessing eligibility, making informed decisions and issuing robust decision letters
- Providing advice on housing options, security of tenure, possession proceedings and relationship breakdown
- Supporting clients with welfare benefits, debt advice and access to support services
- Developing person-centred, solution-focused support plans
- Working closely with internal teams and external agencies to achieve positive outcomes
- Accurately recording casework and decisions using housing IT systems
What we’re looking for:
- Proven experience in a Housing Advice, Housing Options or Homelessness role
- Strong working knowledge of homelessness legislation and housing law
- Experience working with vulnerable households in a fast-paced environment
- Confident decision-maker with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to manage risk, prioritise workloads and work to tight deadlines
