Rehabilitation Officer - Visual Impairment
Location: Oldham Council - Adult Social Care
We are looking for a Rehabilitation Officer - Visual Impairment to join Oldham Council\'s Adult Social Care team. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of people experiencing sight loss across the borough.
About the Role As a Rehabilitation Officer, you will:
- Carry out specialist assessments of individuals and their carers to identify needs related to sensory loss.
- Develop and implement support plans that promote independence, wellbeing, and confidence.
- Provide advice, information, and signposting to other organisations.
- Act as a specialist consultant and advocate on issues relating to visual impairment.
- Maintain the statutory register for sight impaired and severely sight impaired residents.
- Work in partnership with colleagues across social care, health, housing, and voluntary services.
- Deliver sensory awareness training to staff and providers.
- A Diploma in Rehabilitation Studies (or equivalent) and registration with RWPN.
- Experience working with adults and children with visual sensory loss, their families and carers.
- The ability to carry out sensitive and accurate assessments.
- Skills in developing rehabilitation interventions to support independence and wellbeing.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- IT literacy, with experience using case management systems.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a car (essential car user).
