Prison Librarian – HMP Brixton Location: HMP Brixton Pay Rate: PAYE: Β£25.79 per hour Umbrella/Ltd: Β£33.58 per hour (AWR rates apply)About the Role We are seeking a dedicated Prison Librarian to deliver a high-quality library service at HMP Brixton. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference, ensuring prisoners have access to education, information, and cultural resources that support rehabilitation and personal growth. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the library, supporting prisoner assistants, and working in partnership with education staff, prison officers, and external organisations. Key Responsibilities Manage and develop library services to meet the educational, recreational, and cultural needs of prisoners. Supervise and support prisoner library assistants. Deliver induction talks, reading groups, and creative workshops. Provide tailored reference and enquiry services, including support for legal queries. Maintain and promote diverse resources to meet user needs, including minority and low-literacy groups. Liaise with prison departments and external agencies to support prisoner education and rehabilitation. Ensure compliance with Prison Service Instructions and CILIP standards.About You The ideal candidate will have: Experience working in libraries or a similar service environment. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Experience supporting individuals with diverse backgrounds and literacy levels. Competence in literacy, numeracy, and ICT.
