Contract: Initially 3 months - potential to extend

Hours: Part time: 25.5 Per week, Full time: 37 Per week

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Personal Adviser to provide a statutory service for children in care and care leavers aged 16-25 years on behalf of Northamptonshire's Children's Trust. You will work with eligible, relevant, former relevant, and qualifying care leavers, ensuring all legislative requirements are met. The role involves assessing needs, preparing and coordinating Pathway Plans, and providing guidance and support to help young people transition successfully into independent adulthood.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate service provision around the needs of young people, focusing on resilience, self-esteem, and confidence building, including case responsibility for young people aged 18+.
  • Deliver appropriate programmes for care leavers in conjunction with other staff and partner agencies, supporting their transition to independent living.
  • Conduct needs assessments under supervision, developing Pathway Plans with clear, realistic goals for young people.
  • Plan and deliver training sessions, including the Daily Living Project, to equip young people with practical skills for independent living.
  • Maintain consistent contact with young people, providing reliable advice and support through meetings, home visits, and engagement in education or accommodation settings.
  • Challenge young people empathetically to avoid periods without education, employment, or training, liaising with independent and third-sector providers.
  • Offer practical guidance on budgeting and financial management, utilizing professional networks where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all work undertaken, ensuring clarity and supporting other professionals involved.

Person Specification:

Qualifications: A-level standard qualification or equivalent experience in relevant legislation for children in care and care leavers. GCSEs in Maths and English (Essential).

Knowledge & Experience: Understanding of legislation concerning looked after children and care leavers (Children Act 1989, Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000). Knowledge of safeguarding, sexual exploitation, gangs, substance misuse, and Prevent agenda. Awareness of education, training, and employment pathways for care leavers. Knowledge of legislation related to unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, housing, welfare, and equality (Desirable).

Skills & Competencies: Strong written and verbal communication; proficient with electronic case recording systems and MS Word. Ability to build positive relationships with young people, families, carers, and partner agencies. Empathy, resilience, and the ability to support young people through challenging situations.
