Location: Penrith Police HQ, Carleton Avenue, Penrith, Cumbria, CA10 2AU

Contract: 12 month contract with likely extension

Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday) 9am-5pm

Pay Rate: £13.10 PAYE / £17.23 LTD per hour

About the Role

Administrative support to the Central Ticket Office, working in a busy enforcement environment handling high volumes of post and data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Opening, logging, scanning, and processing large volumes of incoming post
  • Accurately recording correspondence on the National Fixed Penalty System
  • Producing and checking daily system prints within strict deadlines
  • Managing enquiries via shared email inboxes and telephone
  • Preparing documentation for posting, scanning, and electronic storage
  • Processing driver admissions, vehicle ownership transfers, and supporting evidence
  • Checking documentation (e.g. hire agreements, licences, images) and identifying anomalies
  • Dealing directly with members of the public, including difficult or irate callers
  • Liaising with police officers, magistrates’ clerks, and Fixed Penalty Offices
  • Maintaining accurate records in line with Data Protection and Force policy
  • Monitoring stationery and consumables and reordering when required
  • Supporting and guiding new staff on procedures when needed

Essential skills and experience

  • High attention to detail – accuracy is critical; errors create legal risk
  • Strong organisational skills – multiple tasks, competing deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, regulated environment
  • IT competence – confident using multiple systems and Microsoft applications
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Emotional resilience – able to remain professional with challenging members of the public
  • Clerical or administrative experience
  • Experience dealing with the public (face-to-face, phone, or written)
  • English GCSE (A–C) or equivalent, or demonstrable competence
  • RSA Level II or equivalent, or demonstrable competence
