A client within the Public Sector based in Lancashire is currently recruiting for an Environmental Health Officer – Food Safety to join their Food and Safety Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority food safety / environmental health environment.

The Role

Key purpose of the role: To undertake food safety interventions and regulatory activities to ensure food premises comply with relevant legislation and do not pose a risk to public health.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Carrying out Category C–E food hygiene inspections in line with Food Standards Agency standards
  • Investigating food safety complaints and food poisoning notifications
  • Taking appropriate informal or formal enforcement action where required
  • Examining food for fitness for human consumption, including seizure and disposal where necessary
  • Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports in accordance with Council procedures

The Candidate

To be considered for this role you will require:

  • A relevant qualification in Environmental Health or Food Safety
  • Competence to undertake Category C–E food hygiene inspections in line with FSA standards
  • Previous experience working within a local authority food safety environment

The below skills would be beneficial for the role:

  • Strong knowledge of food safety legislation
  • Ability to work independently and manage workloads to deadlines
  • Good communication, report writing, and ICT skills

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering payment on a per-inspection basis (Inside IR35).
