Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a growing environmental consultancy for a Biodiversity Net Gain Consultant to join their expanding team based in Manchester. Due to continued growth and an increasing workload across a wide range of development and infrastructure projects, our client is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated consultant with experience in Biodiversity Net Gain assessments to support the successful delivery of projects from inception through to post-development monitoring. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to further develop their career within a supportive, multidisciplinary consultancy environment.
The Role
The successful candidate will play an integral role within the Biodiversity Net Gain team, working across both field-based surveying and office-based technical delivery. You will contribute to the preparation of Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, habitat management and monitoring plans, and support project delivery through all stages of development. The role will involve close collaboration with ecology, arboriculture, landscape architecture, and external consultant teams, requiring a proactive and flexible approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain projects from inception through to post-development monitoring
- Undertake habitat surveys using UKHab methodology
- Carry out habitat condition assessments and on-site habitat mapping
- Deliver written Biodiversity Net Gain feasibility and design-stage assessments
- Produce 30-year Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs)
- Collaborate with in-house multidisciplinary teams and external consultants
- Support client communication, workshops, and presentations
- Update project documentation and respond to consultee comments where required
- Ensure project deadlines and service delivery standards are achieved
- Support wider ecology and environmental teams when necessary
Essential Requirements
- 1-2 years’ experience undertaking Biodiversity Net Gain assessments
- Good understanding of the Biodiversity Metric and relevant planning policy
- Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
- Experience undertaking habitat surveys using UKHab methodology
- Experience with technical report writing and presenting data clearly
- Understanding of habitat management strategies and monitoring plans
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- IT proficiency including Microsoft Office
- Positive, flexible, and enthusiastic approach with a willingness to learn
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of UK and EC wildlife legislation and planning policy
- Membership of CIEEM
- Experience working within a consultancy environment
- Ability to support multidisciplinary project teams
