Job Purpose:
We are seeking a highly skilled Litigation Solicitor to join a local authority in the Bedford region. This exciting role primarily focuses on criminal and civil litigation, licensing and contracts, and common law advice and assistance. You will also be required to undertake contentious advocacy in courts, tribunals, and inquiries as necessary. The successful candidate will provide legal support across various client service areas, including Environmental Health, Licensing, Planning, Housing Benefits, Trading Standards, Highways, and Housing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal advice and representation in criminal and civil litigation matters.
- Assist with licensing and contract-related legal matters.
- Offer common law advice to multiple service areas within the Council.
- Represent the Council in court proceedings and, when required, in tribunals and inquiries.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- A qualified Solicitor or CILEx with a current practising certificate.
- Ideally 2 years’ PQE but would be flexible for the right candidate.
- Proven experience in criminal and civil litigation, licensing, and contract law.
- Strong background in providing legal advice and representation across a range of areas, including Environmental Health, Licensing, Planning, Housing Benefits, Trading Standards, Highways, and Housing.
Additional Information:
- Hybrid working arrangement with 2-3 days per month on-site.
- Flexibility to attend court when required.
- Applicants must be able to travel to court locations within the Bedford region, ideally within 1 hour’s commute.
