Team Leader – Waste Operations
Location: Leeds
Pay Rate: £19.32 per hour PAYE | £25.14 per hour
Umbrella Contract: Temporary - 37 hours per week
About the Role
Service Care Solutions are recruiting for a Team Leader – Waste Operations to support a busy domestic waste collection service in Leeds. This is a hands‑on operational leadership role, responsible for supervising frontline crews and helping ensure household waste and recycling collections are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard. You will act as the link between collection teams and operational management, resolving day‑to‑day issues and helping maintain a reliable, customer‑focused service.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise waste collection crews across a designated area, ensuring daily tasks are completed safely, on schedule and to the required standards.
- Coordinate collection routes, staffing and operational resources to maintain service delivery.
- Monitor performance, identify service issues and provide updates to operational management.
- Support workforce planning, ensuring crews are adequately staffed and vehicles are available when required.
- Liaise with Fleet Services to help ensure vehicles are safe, clean and fit for use.
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints, taking appropriate action to address service failures.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture, ensuring procedures and relevant legislation are followed.
- Investigate and report accidents, incidents and operational concerns.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, managers and other stakeholders to improve service delivery.
Requirements
- Experience supervising teams within a busy operational environment.
- Knowledge of domestic waste collection and recycling services.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate staff, vehicles and daily workloads.
- Confident communication skills, including the ability to handle challenging conversations and resolve complaints.
- A customer‑focused approach, with a commitment to maintaining high service standards.
- Good IT and systems skills, including the ability to record information and provide operational updates.
- A proactive approach to health and safety, teamwork and problem‑solving.
