Overview
Location: Thames Valley Police HQ, Kidlington, OX5 2LP.
Contract: 12-month contract with likely extension.
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday–Friday) 9am-5pm.
Pay Rate: £33.88 PAYE / £45.78 LTD per hour.
The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of a complex ICT case management system within a policing environment. The role requires strong governance, stakeholder engagement, supplier management, and hands-on leadership to ensure successful delivery to time, cost, and quality. This is not a passive coordination role. You will be expected to take ownership, manage risk proactively, and drive delivery across multiple stakeholders and locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of a major ICT project, from initiation through to implementation and handover.
- Develop and manage detailed project plans using recognised methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2).
- Design and oversee testing strategies and implementation plans.
- Manage budgets, risks, issues, dependencies, and benefits realisation.
- Engage and influence senior stakeholders across the Force and external partners.
- Manage third-party vendors and suppliers, ensuring contractual and delivery obligations are met.
- Provide clear leadership to project teams, setting direction and maintaining accountability.
- Report progress, risks, and decisions clearly to governance boards and senior management.
- Travel across Force locations as required to support delivery and stakeholder engagement.
Essential skills and experience
- Proven experience delivering complex ICT projects, ideally including case management systems.
- Strong technical project management and delivery background.
- Demonstrable use of PRINCE2 or equivalent structured delivery frameworks.
- Extensive stakeholder management experience, including senior leadership engagement.
- Strong risk, issue, and dependency management capability.
- Experience managing project budgets and suppliers.
- Confident people leader with the ability to motivate and direct teams.
- Ability to work flexibly, including occasional unsocial hours.
