Contract: 12 month contract with likely extension
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
Pay Rate: £23.40 LTD per hour
About the Role: Gloucestershire Police are currently recruiting experienced Police Staff Investigators (PIP2 qualified) to support investigations within its Child Protection Department. Successful candidates will be aligned to specialist investigative teams dealing with serious and complex offences involving children, including intrafamilial abuse, child exploitation, and child death investigations. You will work under the direction of a Detective Sergeant, contributing to and, where appropriate, leading enquiries into high-risk and sensitive investigations. This is a front-line investigative role. It is not suitable for candidates seeking remote or predominantly administrative work.
Responsibilities:
- Assist and lead investigations into crimes involving children as victims
- Conduct victim and witness interviews, including video-recorded interviews
- Undertake suspect interviews where appropriate
- Prepare and progress case files for court
- Review CCTV, digital evidence, and downloads
- Assist with searches, warrants, and arrests
- Engage directly with victims, families, and partner agencies
- Attend briefings and deploy dynamically based on operational demand
Essential skills and experience:
- PIP2 accreditation (mandatory)
- Proven experience as an investigator within a policing or equivalent environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Resilience and emotional maturity when dealing with traumatic material
- Trauma-informed approach to victims and witnesses
- Strong team-working capability
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness and ability to drive unmarked police vehicles
- Child abuse or child exploitation investigations
- SUDIC / child death investigation exposure
- Advanced interviewing (victims, witnesses, or suspects)
- Disclosure management experience
