Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority in Cheshire for a Finance Manager to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will be required to manage a team responsible for provision of high‑quality advice, analysis, and interpretation to budget holders to underpin effective decision making, meaningful performance management and meet statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a specialist finance function, ensuring robust evaluation of costs, benefits, and risks across projects and service areas.
  • Act as the key finance lead on strategic projects, safeguarding the Council's interests and ensuring value is delivered.
  • Provide critical analysis and constructive challenge on financial and performance data to identify inefficiencies and drive improvements.
  • Deliver clear, insightful financial reporting and advice to senior leaders, Members, and partners to support planning and decision‑making.

Candidate Criteria

  • CCAB qualified (or equivalent) with strong technical knowledge of local government finance and accounting practices.
  • Proven experience in a senior finance or performance role, including managing teams and leading complex projects or transformation initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and present meaningful insights to non‑financial stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence senior leaders and operate in a politically aware environment.
