A client within the Public Sector is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join their team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority or similar environment.
The Role
Key purpose of the role is to provide expert mechanical and heating design, contract administration, and maintenance services to support the Council’s building programme, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and high-quality standards.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Provide heating and mechanical design services as required in the execution of the Council’s building programme.
- Deliver design, contract administration, and maintenance services for engineering, heating, and mechanical systems for Council schemes or similar projects.
- Carry out site and condition surveys of mechanical services in buildings.
- Produce detailed reports including defect diagnosis, priorities, recommendations, costings, and breaches of legislation.
- Ensure systems are designed and maintained in accordance with all health and safety requirements, considering energy and water conservation.
- Supervise contracts during installation phases and carry out site inspections to monitor progress, technical compliance, and quality of workmanship.
- Consult with statutory bodies and private or public utilities as required.
- Work with schools and other organisations responsible for maintenance of Council-owned or similar buildings to ensure awareness of maintenance needs and priorities.
The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
- At least 3 years’ experience in the maintenance of mechanical installations in commercial, education, or industrial premises.
- Awareness of Regulations, Control, and Management of Asbestos.
- Knowledge of Mechanical Regulations, Gas Safe requirements, and experience working within CDM Regulations.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
- Proven ability to work to clear deadlines to ensure planned preventative maintenance programmes remain on target while meeting statutory and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and work safely at heights.
- Experience in carrying out inspections and reporting on mechanical installations including gas, ventilation, air conditioning, and other heating systems.
- Experience supervising contractors during installation and conducting site inspections for progress, technical content, and workmanship.
- Strong negotiating skills.
- Experience presenting findings, advising budget holders and professional advisors on survey results, defects, and remedial works.
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £42 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £35 per hour PAYE).
