Job Description

Service Care Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a Central Government Body in Darlington for a Senior Consolidations Accountant. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead on critical financial reporting activities, including the preparation of complex accounts, balance sheet management, and driving process improvements. The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with extensive consolidations experience, a strong understanding of complex financial interdependencies, and expertise in Whole of Government Accounts (WGA). With experience in large government departments, you will provide technical accounting advice, collaborate with key stakeholders, and ensure audit progression. Main responsibilities

• Lead complex account preparations, including journal adjustments, note production, and financial statements.
• Liaise with the organisation to resolve queries and ensure audit progression.
• Provide accounting advice aligned with government frameworks to internal and external stakeholders.
• Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and financial control.
• Manage key balance sheet items and support budget management and statutory accounts preparation.

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified Accountant with extensive consolidations experience.
• Whole of Government Accounts (WGA) knowledge and experience.
• Experience in consolidations within a large government department, ideally HM Treasury.
• Strong understanding of complex financial interdependencies.
• Ability to challenge and question effectively.
