SEN Principal β Special School | Billingshurst | £79,460 - £85,547
We're recruiting an experienced Principal to lead a non-maintained special school in Billingshurst.
This special school supports students aged 3-19 with neurological motor impairments including Cerebral Palsy, alongside associated medical and sensory needs, using a Conductive Education approach that focuses on the holistic development of every student, including physical and communication skills. Facilities include woodland and outdoor classroom space, a high specification sensory room and a swimming pool.
About the SEN Principal Role
This is a highly visible senior leadership role with responsibility for the overall performance, development and strategic direction of the special school. As Principal, you'll lead a multidisciplinary team, ensure compliance with all statutory and safeguarding requirements, and create a culture where students and staff can thrive. The role requires strong commercial awareness, exceptional people management skills, and a genuine passion for delivering life-changing SEN education.
Strategic Leadership
- Provide inspirational leadership across the special school provision
- Lead strategic development and future growth of the campus
- Develop and deliver school improvement plans aligned to organisational strategy
- Drive innovation and diversification to strengthen and expand SEN services
- Support active marketing and promotion of the school's educational offer
Operational Management
- Take overall responsibility for planning, budgeting, resource management and occupancy levels
- Ensure all statutory, regulatory and safeguarding requirements are fully met
- Maintain strong governance relationships with the Local Governing Body, Chair and Governors
- Build productive partnerships with Local Authorities, commissioners, parents and external stakeholders
People Leadership
- Lead, motivate and develop multidisciplinary teams
- Create a culture of high performance, accountability and continuous improvement
- Recruit, coach and develop educational and support staff
- Champion staff wellbeing, engagement and professional development
- Drive a "grow our own" culture through talent development and succession planning
Student Outcomes
- Ensure students' educational, physical, emotional and safeguarding needs are fully met
- Deliver a high-quality, responsive, outcomes-focused approach to SEN education
- Embed best practice to remain a first-choice provider for families and stakeholders
- Strive for the highest standards of quality and inspection outcomes
About You
- Significant senior leadership experience within education
- Experience leading complex or multi-site educational provisions
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding, compliance, education regulation and risk management
- Proven experience in strategic planning, budget management and service development
- Outstanding leadership and people management skills
- Ability to build strong relationships with parents, governors, commissioners, Local Authorities and partner agencies
- Commercial awareness and experience supporting organisational growth
