Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Ongoing Temporary Contract

Pay Rate: £300 per day Umbrella LTD (Inside IR35) / £230 PAYE

About the Role: We are currently working with a West London Local Authority seeking an experienced Clerk of Works to support the successful delivery of their Capital Projects Programme. The role sits within the Capital Projects team and will focus on the monitoring and inspection of construction projects across the borough. As Clerk of Works, you will play a critical role in overseeing the quality, compliance, and health & safety performance of contractors on site, ensuring that all construction activities adhere to specification, legislative, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and inspect construction activities to ensure compliance with specifications, quality standards, and the Council’s Streetsmart Design Guide.
  • Ensure full compliance with H&S regulations including the CDM Regulations, Traffic Management Act, and the Highways Act.
  • Provide expert advice on materials, workmanship, safety procedures, and traffic management.
  • Attend site inspections daily, assess contractor performance, and contribute to early issue resolution.
  • Maintain detailed site records, inspection reports, and photographic evidence.
  • Monitor progress against project timelines and budgets, reporting to Project Engineers.
  • Review and approve contractor KPIs, snagging lists, and remedial works.
  • Liaise with developers and third-party contractors to ensure compliance with planning and highways standards.
  • Provide feedback on as-built drawings, signage, and markings for final approvals.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in highways or construction project delivery, ideally in a Clerk of Works or similar technical oversight role.
  • Excellent working knowledge of key legislation including the Highways Act, CDM Regulations, NRSWA, and TMA.
  • Ability to manage multiple contractors and complex project programmes.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and inspection processes.
  • Proficiency in IT systems used in project reporting and inspection recording.
  • Ability to liaise professionally with engineers, developers, and contractors to ensure project standards are met.
