Job Description
Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in Caerphilly for a Group Accountant to join the team on a temporary basis.
The postholder will provide support to the Revenue, Capital and Treasury services, leading a team and ensuring statutory accounts, financial reporting and treasury functions are delivered accurately, efficiently and within deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the corporate accounts function, coordinating the annual closure of accounts, preparation of Statement of Accounts, statutory returns, balance sheet reconciliations, and liaison with external auditors.
- Oversee revenue and capital accounting, including budget prep and monitoring, capital programme reporting, ledger management, financial controls and providing advice.
- Manage Treasury Management activities, including borrowing, investments and banking arrangements.
- Lead and develop a team, allocating workloads, managing performance and development.
- Candidate Criteria
- Professional accountancy qualification or equivalent, with substantial experience in a local government finance environment.
- Extensive knowledge of Local Authority accounting, including statutory accounts, the CIPFA Code of Practice, Prudential Code, Treasury Management Code, and taxation.
- Proven management experience, with the ability to lead, motivate, develop and support a finance team while managing competing priorities and demanding statutory deadlines.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, including the ability to interpret complex financial and legislative information, provide clear financial advice, work confidently with senior stakeholders and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
