About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced SEND Officer to join a Local Authority in the Berkshire area on a fully remote basis. This role sits within the Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) / Post-16 team and requires a confident professional who can manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining statutory compliance and delivering high-quality outcomes. This is a fast-paced position suited to someone who can hit the ground running and work independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a large caseload of approximately 200 children and young people with SEND
- Ensure compliance with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice (2015)
- Coordinate Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments, plans and reviews
- Draft, finalise and issue EHCPs, ensuring all statutory deadlines are met
- Attend and chair annual reviews, including transitional and post-16 reviews
- Work collaboratively with families, education settings, health and social care professionals, and post-16 providers
- Promote and embed the voice of the child/young person in all casework
- Prepare reports and present cases at SEND panels and decision-making forums
- Monitor outcomes and progress, identifying when additional support or intervention is required
- Support phase transfers and transition planning, particularly into adulthood
- Maintain accurate records using Capita ONE / MRI, SharePoint and MS Office
- Escalate safeguarding concerns and uphold high standards of professional practice and confidentiality
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a SEND Officer within a Local Authority
- Strong working knowledge of Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) and post-16/18 SEND processes
- Proven ability to manage high caseloads independently
- Experience of chairing annual reviews
- Solid understanding of statutory frameworks and compliance requirements
- Working knowledge of Capita ONE (or MRI), SharePoint and Microsoft Office
- Availability to work 5 days per week (37 hours)
