Job Description

Service Care Solutions is supporting the COVID-19 Inquiry in Scotland, who are seeking Assistant Solicitors to join their legal team. As an Assistant Solicitor, you will play a crucial role within the Inquiry’s legal team—investigating evidence, identifying witnesses, supporting hearings, and contributing to the final report.

Key Responsibilities of the Assistant Solicitor role:

  • Provide general legal advice to the Chair and Inquiry team, with particular regard to the Inquiries Act 2005, Inquiries (Scotland) Rules 2007, and data handling.
  • Identify, recover, and analyse evidence; identify further lines of inquiry and witnesses.
  • Take witness statements and/or oversee statement takers.
  • Instruct and liaise with Counsel. Engage with solicitors representing core participants.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Qualified solicitor or advocate in Scotland.
  • Exceptional attention to detail for rigorous legal document analysis
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with a proactive approach to a variety of tasks.

Working Pattern & Location:

  • Standard hours: 35 hours per week.(full time)
  • Hybrid working: typically 2 days per week in the Edinburgh office.
  • Some periods, particularly around hearings, may require longer hours and on-site presence.

Additional Information:

Salary: Grade C1 (£60,010 per annum)

Contract Length: 12 months

Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid – 2 days in office)

Ltd Day Rate: £314.90

PAYE Rate inc. of Holiday:£267.31
