Adult Psychiatrist β Adult Autism Assessments (18+)
Rate: Β£270 per assessment | Contract: Self-employed, outside IR35
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Adult Psychiatrist with expertise in adult autism assessments to join our clinical team. You will conduct high-quality autism assessments for individuals aged 18 and over, delivering compassionate, evidence-based diagnoses and clear, supportive feedback.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive autism assessments for adults (18+), including detailed developmental histories using recognised tools and preferred assessment methods.
- Observe and assess patients during clinical sessions, ensuring questioning is thorough, sensitive, and person-centred.
- Review developmental histories, previous reports, and relevant collateral information from family members or observers within the assessment session.
- Formulate and conclude diagnoses in line with recognised diagnostic criteria.
- Provide clear, kind, and age-appropriate verbal feedback to patients and families, including practical recommendations and signposting to local and national support resources.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) where additional information is required, offering follow-up sessions when needed to finalise diagnostic outcomes.
- Produce high-quality, detailed diagnostic reports within 48 hours of the assessment, using agreed report templates (full administrative support provided for formatting and quality assurance).
- Request onward referrals where clinically indicated, in accordance with local NHS Trust and ICB pathways.

- Up to four assessments per day.
- Paid per assessment at a competitive rate (Β£270), self-employed and outside IR35.
- Remote, face-to-face, or hybrid working options available, depending on location.
- Flexible working days available Monday to Sunday, allowing you to design a schedule that suits you.
What Weβre Looking For
- GMC-registered doctor with a current licence to practise.
- CCT in Adult Psychiatry preferred, but not essential.
- Demonstrable experience and confidence in conducting autism spectrum disorder (ASD) assessments for adults.
- Up-to-date with revalidation and appraisal requirements.
