Location: Flexible working – principally home-based with regular travel required throughout the Merseyside and Cheshire areas (Northwest England)

Salary: £25,664 per annum + excellent benefits package

Hours: 35 hours per week (flexible working available)

About the Role

Are you passionate about supporting others to rebuild their lives and reduce reoffending? Do you want to play a part in creating safer communities and promoting lasting rehabilitation? The Wise Group is seeking committed and compassionate individuals to join our team as Relational Mentors within our Justice services. In this role, titled Job Mentor – Advocacy, you will work directly with men on probation and in prison across Merseyside and Cheshire, helping them overcome barriers to rehabilitation, particularly those related to finance, benefits, and debt, while also supporting their reintegration into the community.

This is a person-centred, relationship-based role. You will provide consistent and tailored support, empowering individuals to make positive life choices and build a more stable future. You’ll work flexibly and independently, with access to robust training and a highly supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver person-centred mentoring and advocacy support to individuals on probation or in prison, helping them identify and address key barriers to resettlement
  • Build meaningful, consistent relationships that promote trust and engagement, especially with individuals who have experienced multiple disadvantages
  • Support service users in navigating issues related to financial wellbeing, including access to benefits, managing debt, and building financial independence
  • Work collaboratively with statutory and voluntary partners including probation services, prisons, courts, police, social workers, and local community organisations
  • Help individuals develop essential life skills, access appropriate services, and identify pathways into employment, education, or training
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records, risk assessments, and outcome data in line with service standards and contractual requirements
  • Operate flexibly and responsively to the individual needs of service users, ensuring that interventions are trauma-informed and culturally sensitive
  • Contribute to a learning culture within the team, sharing best practices and supporting service development

Essential Attributes:

  • A genuine interest in people, with a compassionate and non-judgmental approach
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage a varied caseload and respond to changing priorities
  • Comfortable working independently in the community and remotely from home
  • Confident using digital tools to maintain case records, communicate, and manage appointments
  • A commitment to rehabilitation, social inclusion, and supporting people through change

Desirable Experience (not essential):

  • Previous experience of mentoring, advocacy, or support work
  • Experience of working in custodial, probation, or social care settings
  • Familiarity with the challenges faced by people involved in the criminal justice system

Essential Requirements:

  • A full UK driving licence and daily access to a car for travel across the designated area
  • Home broadband and the ability to work from home using video calls, emails, and case management systems
