About the Role
As a Workshop Technician, you’ll work on one of the most diverse and interesting fleets in the region. No two days are the same — and your technical skill will directly support emergency services and essential operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Servicing and repairing HGV, LGV and passenger cars, including statutory inspections
- Inspecting, servicing and repairing specialist fleet equipment
- Carrying out diagnostic investigations across light and heavy fleet & equipment
- Providing mobile maintenance across the county to keep GCC and GFRS vehicles roadworthy
- Working on fire appliances, pumps, boats, and specialist rescue equipment
- Servicing portable power units, lighting rigs and hydraulic/pneumatic systems
- Supporting equipment readiness for front-line fire appliances
- Fabrication, engineering, vehicle conversions, and occasional roadside recovery (Full training provided to a national standard)
- Collection and delivery of vehicles as required
- Attending and delivering technical training to the wider team
- Supporting on-call and out-of-hours cover where required
Essential Qualifications & Knowledge
- City & Guilds Motor Vehicle Mechanics Parts 1 & 2 (or equivalent)
- National Craftsman Certificate (or equivalent)
- LGV/Light Mechanic qualification
- LGV Category “C” Driving Licence
- GCSEs in English & Maths (or equivalent)
- IRTEC Qualification
- Basic or Advanced Electrical Diagnostic & Repair Qualification
- Water pump knowledge
- Hydraulic systems knowledge
Experience Required
- Mechanical experience in a busy heavy or light vehicle and/or plant workshop
- Experience working with mixed fleets of light and heavy vehicles
- Experience with specialist or emergency service vehicles
- Competence using computerised diagnostic equipment
- Basic fabrication and welding skills
- High standard of general engineering ability
- Ability to manage work independently
