Seasonal Gardener – Wigan

Contract: Temporary – Pay: £13.45 per hour (PAYE inc Holiday) | £16.50 per hour (Ltd Umbrella). Hours: 37 per week Monday to Friday.

About the role – Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority client for a Seasonal Gardener to join their Environmental Services team working out of the Wigan borough. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual with grounds maintenance and horticultural experience to work within a busy local authority environment helping to maintain parks, green spaces, sports pitches, and landscaped areas across the borough.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on your own initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain relevant operational records and documentation, submitting them promptly to the Team Leader.
  • Take responsibility for the security of vehicles, machinery, materials, and fuel allocated to you.
  • Effectively operate the full range of grass cutting equipment and powered hand tools utilised by the service.
  • Undertake a full range of grounds and horticultural maintenance duties including: grass cutting, sports pitch over-marking, maintenance of flower, rose, and shrub beds, herbaceous border maintenance, formal lawn care, soft and hard landscaping, pruning and hedge cutting.
  • Support all policies, procedures, legislation, and best practice relating to Health & Safety and quality standards.
  • Assist in resolving day-to-day enquiries, issues and complaints.
  • Provide an eyes and ears service across the borough by reporting issues such as blockaded gullies, fly tipping, anti‑social behaviour through the appropriate reporting procedures.

  • PA1 Certificate
  • PA6 Certificate
  • Quad (PA2) Qualification
  • Full UK Driving Licence

The successful candidate will have previous grounds maintenance or horticultural experience, be reliable, hardworking, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
