We are looking for an experienced Supervising Social Worker to join the Fostering Team at Wigan Council on a locum basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified professional with a strong background in fostering and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hold a caseload of foster carers and provide regular supervision and support
  • Undertake annual foster carer reviews
  • Attend and contribute to all associated meetings, including LAC reviews, strategy meetings, and placement planning meetings
  • Complete relevant training and CPD
  • Participate in fostering panel as required
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England
  • Significant post-qualifying experience in fostering services (experience essential)
  • Strong understanding of fostering regulations, safeguarding, and statutory frameworks
  • Ability to manage a complex caseload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills

Additional Information

  • Thursdays are designated office days for all staff.
  • Duty days are also office-based.
  • Hybrid working pattern available outside of these designated days.
  • Supportive team environment with structured supervision.
